Dear Subscriber,

A warm welcome to Maastricht Blog on Transitional Justice! Our polyglot Blog publishes in three languages – English, Spanish and French – and aims to engage a global audience in discussion on transitional justice.

This quarter we’ve covered several exciting developments in the field which I’m delighted to share with you in this inaugural newsletter. In particular, I’d like to highlight our blog posts on: the coup-d’état in Guinea, which is likely to further delay the commencement of the trial for the Massacre of 28 September; the passing of Abimael Guzmán (the former leader of Shining Path) while serving prison sentence and the ensuing controversy about the destiny of his remains; and, as the first trial opens at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in the Hague, a book review by Michael Karnavas, criminal defence lawyer, of Maria Stefania Cataleta’s and Chiara Loiero’s timely book The Kosovo Specialist Chambers: The Last Resort for Justice in Kosovo?

The Maastricht Blog on Transitional Justice is underpinned by the idea that this field must engage a global audience in discussion. It is for this reason I was inspired to create a blog that would disseminate information on transitional justice in three languages. As its Executive Director I am proud that the Blog is already achieving this goal. In our first three months we have published materials in all sections – blogposts, book reviews and interviews – and our readership is steadily growing.

Of course, discussion (in any language!) requires two parties. It is thus with great pleasure that I invite you to enter into collaboration and conversation with the Blog by liking our Facebook page, following us on Twitter, and proposing topics for discussion, people to interview or books to review by emailing: fabian.raimondo@maastrichtuniversity.nl. By way of conclusion, I’d like to thank the Blog editors and correspondents very much for their input and, you, the Blog reader for your interest in our work. We look forward to talking about transitional justice with you in the months to come.
